Spider-Man Discovers the Shocking Truth About His Evil Clone

Peter Parker comes face-to-face with Ben Reilly and learns his evil clone has taken on a new identity in a preview for Amazing Spider-Man #15.

Spider-Man learns his evil clone has taken on a new personality and costume in a CBR exclusive preview of Amazing Spider-Man #15.

Amazing Spider-Man #15 by writer Zeb Wells (New Mutants, Hellions) and artist Ed McGuinness (Avengers, Thanos: Death Notes) sees a demonic invasion take hold of New York City, which began in Dark Web #1. While Venom/Eddie Brock plays the role of the hero and dubs himself the city’s “lethal protector” once more, Spider-Man/Peter Parker is busy making his way to answer a distress call sent by the recently reformed Norman Osborn, only to discover the reason for the call is none other than his own clone — Ben Reilly.

Ben Reilly has become an indelible part of Peter Parker’s story over the past few decades in spite of his humble beginnings as an otherwise unnamed Spider-Clone in the pages of 1975’s Amazing Spider-Man #149 by creators Gerry Conway and Ross Andrew. Over the years Ben has taken up the mantles of the Scarlet-Spider, Spider-Man and even his villainous creator, the Jackal, but none have been quite as dark as his latest transformation into Chasm. After working for Beyond Corporation as their first officially sponsored superhero, Ben was effectively stripped of his memories.

The loss of Ben’s memory combined with the long-term effects of the various materials he was exposed to in 2022’s Amazing Spider-Man #92 (by Wells, Mark Bagley, Patrick Gleason and Sara Pichelli) have culminated in his transformation into Chasm. Harboring a seething disdain for Spider-Man, Ben has teamed up with Madelyne Pryor, aka the Goblin Queen of Limbo, who also has an origin rooted in being a clone of another Marvel icon — Jean Grey. Together Ben, Madelyne and the former’s love interest Janine Godbe have all embarked on an enigmatic crusade to take back the lives that they believe are rightfully theirs, though how they plan to accomplish such a task remains to be seen.

Amazing Spider-Man #15 is written by Zeb Wells, with art by Ed McGuinness, inks by Cliff Rathburn, colors by Marcio Menyz, and letters by VC’s Joe Carmagna. Main cover art is by John Romita Jr., with variant cover arts by McGuinness and Salvador Larroca. Amazing Spider-Man #15 goes on sale Dec. 14 from Marvel Comics.
