A new Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special promo poster sees Dave Bautista’s Drax the Destroyer don a delightfully unattractive festive sweater.
A new Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special poster recently surfaced online, and it gives Drax the perfect ugly Christmas sweater.
The poster first appeared on the r/MarvelStudiosSpoilers subreddit. It features Drax (Dave Bautista) standing alongside his Guardians of the Galaxy teammate Mantis (Pom Klementieff), both of whom are dressed in festive attire. Drax’s get-up is especially memorable, as he’s paired his usual rugged trousers with a green long-sleeved knitwear top covered in an eclectic array of imagery. This imagery includes a Santa hat-wearing cat with laser beams shooting from its eyes, a slice of pizza, and dozens of candy canes. Mantis’ outfit is more restrained by comparison, although she makes up for this by holding an oversized candy cane prop in her arms.
Bautista previously shared a different Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special poster on Twitter. This promo artwork also focuses on Drax and Mantis, although the pair are dressed in their regular space-faring gear instead of festive attire. That said, Drax is wearing a Santa hat and he and his teammate are both wrapped in Christmas lights. The poster also hints that Drax and Mantis will partake in Yuletide merrymaking at some point during the special, given the way they’re posed leaning against a parking meter while passed out in the gutter.
The GotG Holiday Special Trailer Has Landed
Marvel Studios released the first Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special trailer in October 2022. The trailer reveals the basic premise of the special, which was filmed alongside upcoming big screen blockbuster Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Set after the Guardians’ brief appearance in Thor: Love and Thunder, The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special will see Drax and Mantis embark on a mission to cheer up Peter Quill/Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) in time for Christmas. The duo’s plan apparently involves kidnapping one of Quill’s favorite actors, Kevin Bacon, who plays himself. Writer-director James Gunn has since labeled The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special‘s fictionalized version of Bacon his new favorite Marvel Cinematic Universe character.
Bacon isn’t the only surprise addition to the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special‘s acting line-up, either. The Disney+ special’s official cast list includes franchise veteran Michael Rooker, even though his character, Yondu, died in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. It’s unclear whether Rooker will reprise the Yondu role in The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, or if he will portray a different part, instead.
The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special premieres on Disney+ on Nov. 25, 2022, and marks the end of the MCU Phase Four.
