The new Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania theater standee suggests that Bill Murray’s character has a bigger part to play than previously believed.
Bill Murray’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania role may be more substantial than expected, if a newly released poster for the film is anything to go by.
As noted by The Direct, the Ant-Man and the Wasp sequel’s new theater standee features Murray’s name among the top-billed actors in the movie. This suggests that Murray’s as-yet-undisclosed character will have a bigger part to play than the brief cameo many fans previously assumed the Hollywood legend would make. That said, Marvel Studios has yet to officially comment on the cast credits displayed on the Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania standee, which means the size of Murray’s role remains pure speculation for now.
Murray’s involvement in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania was first confirmed with the release of the Marvel Cinematic Universe blockbuster’s San Diego Comic-Con trailer in July 2022. This footage didn’t reveal the name of Murray’s character, however, it did confirm his shared history with Michelle Pfeiffer’s Janet van Dyne. Specifically, dialogue uttered by Murray in the Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania SDCC trailer makes it clear that his character knows Janet by name and was under the impression that she was now dead.

Persistent rumors insist that Murray is portraying Krylar, a relatively obscure character who made his first and only appearance to date in 1972’s The Incredible Hulk #156. While Krylar’s status as a resident of the Microverse tracks with Murray’s scenes apparently taking place in the Quantum Realm, Murray lacks many of Krylar’s physical traits (most notably, his green skin). What’s more, Marvel Studios is yet to publicly address speculation that Murray is playing Krylar, and the Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania teaser offers no further clues, either. As such, the jury is still out when it comes to the ongoing Murray/Krylar casting reports.
For his part, Murray has been slightly more forthcoming when it comes to discussing his part in the upcoming sequel. While the Ghostbusters star declined to name his character when put on the spot in January 2022, he nevertheless confirmed that he was portraying a villain in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. “My power is, I’m a bad guy,” Murray said when quizzed on what superpowers (if any) he’ll demonstrate in the hotly-anticipated movie.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania arrives in theaters on Feb. 17, 2023, and marks the start of the MCU Phase Five.
